FTP archive

Postby akmayuga » Mon Oct 07, 2013 9:25 am

hi,

I've read this thread http://www.vicidial.org/VICIDIALforum/viewtopic.php?p=72903
and i just want to make sure if the all the recordings will stay on FTP folder and the archive server will serve as a backup copy??

disk space is not an issue to us, that's why we want to keep the recordings on the main server.

thanks

When recordings are moved to the ftp server with the cron job for that purpose, the recordings will be put into the ftp folder of the dialer and will stay there until/unless you create a script to delete them. But that folder will become "unwieldy" as it has no sub-folders. You'll end up with hundreds of thousands of files in one folder. Impossible to even show a list of files eventually. But they will be there, and you can retrieve them if you know the actual filename.

Better method is to use the ftp2 script to push to a second ftp server where they should be in "day" folders (so each day of the year gets a folder). Then the ftp server and the ftp2 server both have all files and they are in organized folders by day.

We've also had many clients mirror the archive folder to another server.

But if all you want is to leave them all on the dialer in addition to the archive server copy, yep, that'll work. There will also be a copy in the ORIG folder (WAV, larger file) in addition to the MP3 which will be pushed from the MP3 folder to the FTP folder when the ftp script runs. So you'll end up with three copies (two on the dialer: WAV in ORIG folder and MP3 in the FTP folder) and one copy on the archive server (MP3).
