page permissions

Postby mudgey » Sun Feb 09, 2014 8:56 pm

Hello,

I am a total Vicidial (and Asterisk) newbie so please forgive what is probably a very naive question. I have installed ViciBox 5 from the latest distro and have logged in, changed user 6666 password and logged in again. I can add new users and access many of the admin functions. The problem is that when trying to create a new campaign I m told I do not have permission to access that page. Please, what am I doing wrong?

What you are doing wrong is a fairly normal "oops" for new users. So I'll give you my standard schpiel:

1) Welcome to the Party! 8-)

2) As you are obviously new here, I have some suggestions to help us all help you:

When you post, please post your entire configuration including (but not limited to) your installation method and vicidial version with build.

This IS a requirement for posting along with reading the stickies (at the top of each forum) and the manager's manual (available on EFLO.net, both free and paid versions)

You should also post: Asterisk version, telephony hardware (model number is helpful here), cluster information if you have one, and whether any other software is installed in the box. If your installation method is "from scratch" you must post your operating system and should also post the .iso version from which you installed your original operating system. If your installation is "Hosted" list the site name of the host.

If this is a "Cloud" or "Virtual" server, please note the technology involved along with the version of that techology (ie: VMware Server Version 2.0.2). If it is not, merely stating the Motherboard model # and CPU would be helpful.

Similar to This:

Vicibox X.X from .iso | Vicidial X.X.X-XXX Build XXXXXX-XXXX | Asterisk X.X.X | Single Server | No Digium/Sangoma Hardware | No Extra Software After Installation | Intel DG35EC | Core2Quad Q6600

3) Next make serious note of the reference to a Vicidial Manager's Manual. Download the free version. Start at page ONE and skip NOTHING. Read every line, perform every task (skip NOTHING) and when you have a working system ... then STOP and make some money. When you realize you want more ... go right back to the page you left off on and continue until you hit the end.

If you hit a stag, bring us the manual version, page, line and what you "expected" to happen/see/experience and what you "actually" saw/experienced or what happened. We'll walk you through the rest of the way and you won't be a newbie any more.

Happy Hunting! 8-)

Ok thanks

Vicibox V.5.0.2 - 130821 from .iso | Asterisk 11| Single Server | No Digium/Sangoma Hardware | No Extra Software After Installation | Intel | Core Duo

I am using a very small server just to explore and experiment with Vicibox.

I had bought the user manual (which is for version 2.4 it seems) I have read through quite carefully but can find no reference as to how to solve the problem regarding permissions for adding new campaigns.

As you say it is a common newbie mistake, I would be grateful if you could explain please?

Do me a favor: Start from the beginning and perform all the steps without skipping any. If you do NOT bump into a step that tells you to create a user with proper permissions (or to modify your existing user to have the proper permissions) you should probably put in a Vicidial Issue Tracker request to have that added. Since the primary purpose of the documentation is to get newbies "over the hump" and supply long-term users with written documentation of all the released features ... it seems likely it's in there.

Before the manual says "create a campaign", I would assume it tells you how to modify your user to have permission to do so.

Not to pick on you ... (yes, that means I'm about to pick on you, sorry :) ), but if you are told you do not have permission to access a feature in an application, would it not make sense to "modify the user" whom you have logged in as and see what permissions this user has? As a rule, on a test box especially, we'll give the master user ALL permissions to avoid this sort of challenge down the road. LOL

If that line does exist in the manual, I'd recommend you start over from the beginning again just to be sure you didn't miss anything ... else. :)
