freepbx

Soon, hopefully, I'll actually install FreePBX. At least initially, I'll have to put ViciDial on the same box, but this is just for testing and, more importantly, learning. From what I've read:

http://eflo.net/VICIDIALforum/viewtopic.php?t=6508

ViciDial should optimally be on a different box? I don't see this as a problem. Is there something more official documentation wise? I have the ViciDial Managers manual, and an Asterisk book which I'm slogging through.

Hmm. Looking at:

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=32875&p=111210&hilit=freepbx#p111210

perhaps I don't need FreePBX??

Maybe this is easier than I anticipated. ViciBox server seems to have eveything..?

I have a separate FreePBX box here alongside my ViciDIAL cluster. They do different things. My FreePBX runs the office phones (Polycom IP550s) and also handles a legacy system that can only talk ISDN (I have an Sangoma ISDN card installed and use E1 cross over cables to connect it up). What are you intending to use your FreePBX box for?

My initial take was that freepbx (with asterisk) would have to run on a seperate box than vicidial. Ahem. Before I read what vicibox was built with...

It's for a very small call center, <10 reps. I don't think there's a need for FreePBX.

I don't understand why you need FreePBX. What are you using it for, since ViciBox seems to have everything already (does it)?

There are modules available for FreePBX that are not available for Vicidial. But those are fairly specific and not actually necessary for the running of an office. Also beware trunking of Vicidial through FreePBX as Vicidial's throughput can blow away a FreePBX server (ie: crank down the calls per second and don't overload FreePBX).

Otherwise, FreePBX CAN reside in the same server, but the amount of time to interweave the installs would easily pay for the extra hardware so it's actually pointless. LOL (Not to mention that upgrading either package would then be a nightmare.)

But if you build them in separate boxes, either can be upgraded without loss of connectivity. Connect a trunk in FreePBX to a carrier in Vicidial. Then your Vicidial agents can have phones that are "external" and when they log in to Vicidial they will show as "busy" in FreePBX (Handy).

We have a few clients who are pretty much married to their FreePBX (it's moderately addictive) and insist on keeping them linked.

Personally, the killer feature I use FreePBX for is the End Point Manager. Flashing the firmware and writing all the configs for the Polycom 550's from scratch is probably my personal hell. Ugh.
