Raid type for vicidial

Postby mark_18 » Thu Jul 17, 2014 3:07 pm

Support,
Newbie on raid setup!!!
I'm doing a cluster setup,
1 database / web server ( 8 cores CPU ; 16gb ram)
2 asterisk server (8 cores CPU ; 4gb ram)
1 archive server (windows server Intel pentium ; 4gb ram)
What is the best raid type should I use? Do I need to do raid also on the asterisk servers?
What is my best option? Hardware raid or Software raid?
I will be using supermicro servers.
As you can see on my signature I am using All in One setup (Intel Xeon L5420 2.5ghz 8 cores;8gb ram) with maximum of 30 agents logged in(load is not high), We are planning to add more agents (+20 more) that is why I'm trying to have the best option for my new setup.

Thanks a lot.

If you are looking for performance:

mflorell wrote:The most common issue with scaling that we have seen is having a disk system on the database server that is too slow. We have clients with over 400 agents across 9 telephony servers that experience no DB load issues at all. But we have seen clients with as few as 100 agents using improper raid cards or even just raid settings and they run into these DB locking and load issues.

So, repeat after me: "LSI Logic, MegaRAID card with RAID-10" for the database server. NOT 3ware, NOT adaptec, NOT RAID-5!

I never use raid on the asterisk servers, i treat them as if they were disposable :P. Raid-5 for the Archive Server and Raid-10 for the Database.

But to be honest i have done setups for 50 Agents, using a the Optional Server Specification as Database/Web + 2 asterisk Servers, but if you are planning to scale further then that take in mind the matt´s quote :P

I have Raid - 1 between two drives on my telephony servers. That's just out of pure laziness on my part though. Why rebuild a server when you can just swap a disk out?
