1) Welcome to the Party! 8-)

2) As you are obviously new here, I have some suggestions to help us all help you:

When you post, please post your entire configuration including (but not limited to) your installation method and vicidial version with build.

This IS a requirement for posting along with reading the stickies (at the top of each forum) and the manager's manual (available on EFLO.net, both free and paid versions)

You should also post: Asterisk version, telephony hardware (model number is helpful here), cluster information if you have one, and whether any other software is installed in the box. If your installation method is "from scratch" you must post your operating system and should also post the .iso version from which you installed your original operating system. If your installation is "Hosted" list the site name of the host.

If this is a "Cloud" or "Virtual" server, please note the technology involved along with the version of that techology (ie: VMware Server Version 2.0.2). If it is not, merely stating the Motherboard model # and CPU would be helpful.

Similar to This:

Vicibox X.X from .iso | Vicidial X.X.X-XXX Build XXXXXX-XXXX | Asterisk X.X.X | Single Server | No Digium/Sangoma Hardware | No Extra Software After Installation | Intel DG35EC | Core2Quad Q6600

3) Multi server isn't something you need because of a "rule". It's something you need when you exceed the capacity of a single server. This 'exceed' condition can be observed by checking "htop" at the command line or by checking near the bottom of the real time screen of the server under heavy load:
Code: Select all
5 agents logged in on all servers
  System Load Average: 0.00 0.00 0.00    M

*Note that this example is from a system presently Idling. :)

If you have a 4 core processor in your server, 2.0 (half of the core count) system load average should be considered "full/heavy load". Load over 2.0 for any sustained period of time would indicate that you will soon need to add power to your Vicidial system. You could upgrade the existing server (more cores for instance), but this is often not possible.

Usually this is done by adding a 2nd server to make this a Vicidial Cluster (or multi-server Vicidial installation). Vicibox.com's .iso image will actually manage this for you, read the installation manual for Vicibox. If you're not comfortable adding a 2nd server to your cluster, there are plenty of technicians here to help you out (usually for a fee, of course). Note that anyone who does not charge a fee and without a solid reputation should be treated with great caution. During this process of installation, they must have full access to your original server and could obviously either do damage or steal data quite easily (or both, come to think of it).

Note that if your Load Average exceeds your number of cores, you are in OVERLOAD (this tends to happen pretty quickly after exceeding the above-mentioned 50% full load value). It is quite possible, once you exceed your core count, to see some crazy numbers like "average server load 37.5" or even over 100.0. You'll also probably notice odd behavior of the dialer at this point. Slow screen refreshes for agents, prospects landing in the wrong conference room with the wrong agent or with an agent who already has a prospect. Once you are in overload, the rules are being broken and pretty much anything can happen.

So: If you are NOT experiencing heavy server load (ie: more than 50% of your core-count on the server), you should not yet need a Multi-Server solution. If you have not yet built your system, the rule of thumb is 25 agents per dialer IF you'll be dialing 2.5 lines per agent and not recording all calls or using AMD and if you have at least a 4 core system with 2.3Ghz and 2G RAM.

Happy Hunting! 8-)
