Multi codec audio calls

Postby davide.filippi » Tue Jul 04, 2017 3:13 pm

Hi all
From few days i have audio issues and hangup calls during a call.
My provider told me that it is because i send many calls in multi codec audio: alaw ulaw g729 and GSM.
What does this mean?
How can I solve?

You probably have your carrier settings set to use one codec, and your phones using another. This is bad. You want to match codecs and prevent what is called transcoding(translating between one codec to another.)

In your carrier settings make sure you have(In this order):

disallow=all
allow=ulaw

Under the phone options in vicidial make sure allowed codecs is ulaw.

This will default everything to ulaw codec which is an uncompressed codec which provides the best audio quality but uses the most bandwidth.

Thank you for the reply.

I have in Global sip.conf
Disallow all
Allow alaw
Allo ulaw
Allo g729
Allow gsm.

In the vicidial carrier settings i have
Disallow all
Allow alaw

In the x-lite client advance settings I've all codec enabled by default.

So i need to set only one codec? I believer that there was a codec negotiation
