Postby joebiden » Thu Apr 18, 2019 5:38 pm

1) Welcome to the Party! 8-)

2) As you are obviously new here, I have some suggestions to help us all help you:

When you post, please post your entire configuration including (but not limited to) your installation method (7.X.X?) and vicidial version with build (VERSION: 2.X-XXXx ... BUILD: #####-####).

This IS a requirement for posting along with reading the stickies (at the top of each forum) and the manager's manual (available on EFLO.net, both free and paid versions)

You should also post: Asterisk version, telephony hardware (model number is helpful here), cluster information if you have one, and whether any other software is installed in the box. If your installation method is "manual/from scratch" you must post your operating system with version (and the .iso version from which you installed your original operating system) plus a link to the installation instructions you used. If your installation is "Hosted" list the site name of the host.

If this is a "Cloud" or "Virtual" server, please note the technology involved along with the version of that techology (ie: VMware Server Version 2.0.2). If it is not, merely stating the Motherboard model # and CPU would be helpful.

Similar to This:

Vicibox X.X from .iso | Vicidial X.X.X-XXX Build XXXXXX-XXXX | Asterisk X.X.X | Single Server | No Digium/Sangoma Hardware | No Extra Software After Installation | Intel DG35EC | Core2Quad Q6600

3) if the file shows and plays from the audio store, but does not play in the soundboard, the format is incorrect (and this should be evident from the asterisk CLI stating as much while trying to play the file).

4) There is no playback file size limit. PHP has a file upload size limit (not related to Vicidial, of course, php/apache2 are standardized packages with lots of online references for support). But once the file is uploaded, neither php nor apache are involved in playback: Just asterisk.

300kb gsm is not a "time in minutes". 3 minutes doesn't indicate size. You did not mention whether there were any errors during upload. You did not specify whether the file now appears in the audio store after the upload. You also didn't mention whether you tried listening to the file before you uploaded it (it should not have changed: it's an upload and a download of a digital audio file). Nor did you specify how you tried to listen to it: in the audio store interface? by calling in to an extension where this audio file should play? or is it on a call menu or ingroup? or the outbound message in a survey? nor did you provide the output from the asterisk CLI if you tried to play it in asterisk.

So ... while I'd like to help ... I don't have a lot to go on. 8-)

soundboard plays audio through asterisk. any format supported by asterisk will work. wav, ulaw, gsm, g729 (if installed), alaw, etc. Note that ulaw/wav will use the least amount of CPU power since they are uncompressed and the meetme room is already ulaw, so the conversion is almost non-existent. Any compressed format must be uncompressed to broadcast into the meetme room, which costs CPU power.

We only recommend clients use: 16bit, 8k, mono, PCM .wav audio files.

Re: Vicidial Audio file size and time limit

Postby williamconley » Tue Apr 23, 2019 6:11 pm

this is a basic tenet of asterisk sound requests. asterisk will choose the "least expensive" format of a file to play upon request. eg: if you have a file in g729, gsm, and ulaw and request that the file be played in a meetme room, it will choose "ulaw" because that's the closest match to the audio stream in the meetme room.

But how does it know which file is which format? The file extension.

When uploading, the extension is necessary. When requesting a file, however, you leave the extension off so asterisk can choose for you (not optional, BTW, required to leave the extension off for the system to recognize the file).
