VICIDIAL on Redhat 8.

Postby Op3r » Tue Jun 20, 2023 12:27 pm

Strange as it may sounds but with the advent of highly regulated Fintech companies using VICIDIAL, they have a list of tech stacks that are only allowed to be used based on their cybersec policies.

Now I got asked if VICIDIAL can run on redhat 8 or any commercial flavored linux distro (that is on their whitelisted tech stack). Have anyone tried running it on Redhat Distro itself? (im not talking about centos/fedora or any rh derivatives.) Hows the performance? Any pitfalls that we need to look out for?

Thanks!

We have had a few clients run VICIdial on SuSE Enterprise, since it can use all of the OpenSuSE packages we have created for VICIbox.

As for RedHat Enterprise, It's been several years since I've seen a VICIdial client use it, but there have been several over the years.

I've run ViCi on RHEL 6 and 7 no issues. Not 8 though. Asterisk 1.4 won't compile on RHEL 7 though.

@mflorell any benefits to running ViCi on SLES vs RHEL either from a tech standpoint or financial/support standpoint?

Cheers.

From a technical standpoint, I don't know of any benefits to running an enterprise Linux system. It's really only been more of a hassle every time a client has done it.

Its just that in case of old people (im 43 now, i mean older than me like 50) stuck on CYA on every IT Items, they need "Enterpricey" systems.

On my side specially companies that have gotten some singaporean influences, they have CYA document that lists their approved tech stacks. Any tech that arent listed on that thing is automatically get declined.
