/usr/lib/gcc/i486-slackware-linux/4.1.2/../../../../i486-slackware-linux/bin/ld: cannot find -lslang
what is the reason for this error. only if i install newt will i be able to use zttool. I am running this as root from my root directory.

You don't actually have to install zttool for Asterisk to work. It's just nice to have as an analog-interface debug tool.

That depends on your system and what versions of what libraries and applications are installed. I have been on systems before where I spent hours trying to get zttool to build and never got it working, but with a standard Slackware install it will work with the instructions in the SCRATCH_INSTALL doc
