did you install mysql development and client

what OS you are trying to install

if its CENT or FC

send rpm -qa | grep mysql ( MySQL)

but the problem now is i cant run mysql.

ERROR 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock

i run ln -s /tmp/mysql.sock /var/run/mysql/mysql.sock

but the no mysql.sock found: heres the error: ln: creating symbolic link `/var/run/mysql/mysql.sock': No such file or directory

i tried to locate to mysql.sock file but i cant see it.

i use distro FC7.
mysql = mysql-4.0.27

pls help me to solve this problem i have been many times reinstall this one but the same problem. i follow the scratch install and the same problem again and again. almost 3 times i reinstall this one.
