You know, i'm not sure if Winux posting all his comments in bold is annoying or really cool. It DOES make it easier to find the posts from the originator of the thread if his posts are all bold. Interesting.
OS: use VicidialNOW for your first install, it gets you up and running very quickly for testing. Then build one in the OS of choice of the Linux person you will have running the system for you.
Make no mistake, you WILL have a linux person when your system goes live, or you take the chance of spending all the money you saved by using vicidial to have a professional run over to your call center to resolve a silly mistake you made in asterisk and shut off your server's ability to make calls.
If YOU intend to be your Linux Person, be careful that you do not intend to also manage the Call Center (those two hats are not generally compatible).
That being said ... I've heard a lot of people use slackware, I use Gentoo, and I have people who use debian and ubuntu.
It will not hurt you to install each of those OSs from an install CD and test run them to see how easily you can manage them. And if you can't manage them, either go back to VicidialNOW or hire someone for IT who CAN absorb all this information.
And SERIOUSLY buy AND READ the Manager Manual and do the "SCRATCH-INSTALL" exactly as written. Then when you ask for help HERE, it will be readily available, and those helping you will be speaking the same Vicidial language that you are.
