Separate VICIDIAL and Asterisk Server?

Postby Ov1 » Thu Jan 15, 2009 3:41 am

Hello. I'm new to VICIDIAL. I've been reading the docs and forum for multi-server setups but I still haven't found an answer. I need to know whether it is possible and if yes, is it recommended, to have separate servers for Asterisk and VICIDIAL. The system would look as follows :

1 DB Server (MySQL)
1 Asterisk Server (Only Asterisk)
1 Application/Web Server (Apache & VICIDIAL - both web client interface and perl scripts)

Thanks!

Wow! The forums are full of information on that. Just search for "hardware". There are also good information in the "load balancing" document in the SVN trunk. Look at the wiki to see how to download the trunk. In short, the answer is "yes", it is absolutely recommended to follow the multi-server route.

Is it possible to install vicidial and asterisk on separate servers?

Vicidial SHOULD be installed with Asterisk.

you can put portions of VICIDIAL on a non-Asterisk server, but there are several AGI scripts that must exist on the Asterisk server as well as sound files and the extensions.conf entries.

Remember that "Vicidial" is not like "Word", it's not a single executable file. It is a group of scripts and dial plan entries and methodology that perform many tasks in many areas.

So when you say "can you install vicidial and asterisk on separate servers", the answer is Yes.

But there will always be a portion of Vicidial on the Asterisk server to allow for a certain amount of control over Asterisk.
