Is it possible to encode to MP3 instead of wav for better compression?

We recommend GSM format because we think it sounds better and it is the same compression ratio as mp3. But if you want to compress to either GSM or MP3 then just use the following mixing scripts in your crontab instead of the BASIC one:

AST_CRON_mix_recordings_GSM.pl
or
AST_CRON_mix_recordings_MP3.pl

NOTE: to use the MP3 version you need to have lame installed
