Are the tables 'vicidial_agent_log' and 'call_log' related?

It seems that they should be able to be linked if one converts call_log.uniqueid to a datestamp and then links it to vicidial_agent_log.event_time, but this does not work.

Is there another way to join up these tables, or are they actually unrelated?

In that case, what is call_log used for? Simply logging all calls made via Asterisk? If that's so, is it a substitute for Asterisk's cdr table?

Exactly, you can't trust Asterisk's CDR, especially with all of the wacky call routing we do int ViciDial.
