All installation and configuration problems and questions

I had tried the scratch install on FC 4 . But am not able to compile the MySQL from source, I am getting error that Linux Threads needs to be there.

SCRATCH_INSTALL is written from a Slackware perspective. It will work on a lot of other full Linux installations, but not always the same on all.
Did you install all available packages in FC4?
Have you tried building a custom kernel?

there is a Fedora package called Linuxthreads it should be one one of the cd's under
/Fedora/RPMS
