how to set callerid name

How do you set callerid name in vicidial. There's a textbox for callerid number, but I can't find the callerid name.

Do you have set it manually in the dial plan?

You do NOT.

Here are your reasons:

1) (This is a biggie): The CallerID name is used by vicidial to track the calls. if you change it, vicidial will fail.

2) CalleridNAME cannot be set by the caller. Phone companies ignore it (i would be more than happy to demonstrate this for you, but if you google it, you'll find it to be true). CallerID name is pulled from each telco's local database (they exchange valid callerid name data in the background to avoid unscrupulous people making it up as they go ... "Free Cell Phone!", right?) So even though you CAN set calleridname in asterisk, unless you are calling another asterisk box directly, it will not get there anyway. Vicidial uses this little quirk to its advantage to track the calls unquestionably via calleridname which remains with the call no matter what else changes. Left over from several versions ago, but no reason to change it.

If you want to set your calleridname to something special, purchase a phone number from a local telco, use the name you want to appear in callerid, then set your callerid to the number you purchased. Unfortunately, all returned calls will come back through THAT number, and you are extremely traceable. That's not an accident.

Also unfortunately, if you aren't really that company ... well, that would be unscrupulous ...
