Who wants a 64bit VicidialNOW?

Postby gardo » Mon Sep 28, 2009 6:51 am

Guys,

Who wants a 64bit version of VicidialNOW? 64bit has some advantages over 32bit when it comes to performance. Specifically with Mysql (database) - performance and capacity. Faster Asterisk transcoding specially with meetme rooms. Faster mp3 encoding with LAME and a lot more.

And of course, this is for systems supporting 64bit extensions (Intel's Core 2 series, I7, Xeons AMD's X2/X4 and etc).

64 bit also means higher memory requirements for the same tasks...

The power of 64bit programming is being felt on many fronts. The option of 64bit would likely prove a powerful friend. BUT do NOT abandon the 32bit OS as a result, that is all I ask.

That being said, I have run asterisk with custom dialer software on 64bit gentoo with excellent results.

1000 lines target on the box, it easily cruises at over 800 channels and maintains 600+ actual live broadcasting recordings. (Quad Phenom. 100 Meg circuit.)

The client is pleased. Of course, the box in question WILL eat all available resources and does not play nice with other boxes, but that's because the tech who built it, did so according to client specs: "unleashed".

Postby caicedo2040 » Mon Mar 01, 2010 2:58 pm

Hello,
What would happen if I install actual vicidialnow version 1.3 on a machine with a 64 bit processor? It will work?

Where can I get tech. specifications required for vicidialnow?

Thanks

vicidialnow will work just fine on a machine with 64 bit processor.

i have used vicidialnow on a PIII with 128Meg RAM! The specs are more determined by how much power you want /need your dialer to have vs your pocketbook.

if you are not sure, put it on an old p4 laying around your office.

and do not forget that vicidialnow and vicibox are BOTH just "Vicidial" with different OSs. So you can try the "Vicibox Demo" available on Vicibox.com (which is free and requires NO installation, just burning an .iso to a CD and then Boot From It!).

Afterwards, you can install Vicibox OR VicidialNOW and they will be running the same software. VicidialNOW uses an improved "look" of the agent interface, but it runs on CentOS which is not supported by The Vicidial Group (the creators of this software).

If you have a need of Redhat based OS: Go with VicidialNOW. If you would like to have a standard installation of Vicidial 2.0.5 on Ubuntu, go with Vicibox.

In either case, your "64 vs 32" CPU will not make a difference in whether it will install.

Thank you very much for your answer,

I'm testing with simple old machine now and it works OK. Probably I'll start testing with a 64 bit machine in a couple of weeks and see the results.

I'm not familiar with vicibox, on website it says it is a demo version. Does it have any limitation?

Regards

vicibox HAS a demo version. whereas vicidialNOW does not HAVE a demo version.

but vicibox also has a server version. downloads and installs from .iso just like vicidialNOW, except it installs Ubuntu instead of CentOS (Ubuntu IS supported by The Vicidial Group ... CentOS is supported by the moderator of this forum ONLY).

I do, but I only have a couple. Which is ODD because my first OS (Non Microsoft!) was CentOS. I love CentOS. But hit the "update" or "upgrade" (yum!) button and watch that sucker stop workin as a dialer. Whoa. Not cool. Not so in Ubuntu (it updates as part of the install).

I seriously respect the amount of work done to get VicidialNOW available (and on an .iso!), but my opinion is that it is still for those Requiring Redhat. Just my opinion, mind you, I'm not "affiliated" with anyone other than Poundteam.

We created our own version on Gentoo, but never put it out on an .iso. Simply because our clients didn't want "slackware" and Ubuntu wasn't stable yet. Gentoo is a completely customizable kernel, which made it ideal to "scratch install" vicidial into. So we went there. Ubuntu has since Evolved dramatically (Shipping with Dell servers!) and The Vicidial Group has published an .iso with Ubuntu ... well, Ubuntu it is!

Was that a little long? LOL

CentOS is still my choice for a server distro since it's derived from RedHat. Pretty hard to beat the work RedHat put into to make it the major Linux distro when it comes to the server market. Stability, compatibility, marketing and a lot more. Heck, they have the most number of developers contributing on the Linux kernel development.

On the business side, most hardware vendors certified theirs to run Redhat Linux. Probably that's why most Asterisk run Linux distro has CentOS as their base (AsteriskNOW, Elastix, Trixbox, SipX and etc).

i would be intersted in using a 64 bit version.

on the other note i have been a long time cent os user in server enviroments and have just come much more comfortable using and managing centos than ubuntu but that doesnt mean i wouldn't love to test out the system on ubuntu as soon as i have time lol.

 well i was shocked for more people voted for 64bit edition. cool.

there is some thing which we have look through because, up to vicidialnow1.3 dialing system is very good. but the upgraded goautodial2.0 is not that good because many of the dialing options have been removed like barging and listening. user stats options downloading recordings from user stats. so, i recommend all of you to stick to vicidal 1.2 and vicidial 1.3 (64bit edition)

They weren't removed. If you've read the Manager's Manual and explored the system some more, you'll see that the barging and listening options are still there. All the options from previous Vicidial versions are available on the new version. Not to mention a lot of new features and bug fixes.

I'd recommend you learn to use the new system first before saying it's not good. Actually it's a lot better than VicidialNOW 1.3.

Do we already have a 64bit version of vicidialnow? I don't think it will install on a 64bit version like core i series.

I just tried installing vicidialnow and go autodial on a core i7 series. It doesn't continue on installation. It stops on /sbin/loader. Hope we already have a 64bit version of Vicidialnow. I think I don't have any other issues with the hardware it is just that it has a 64bit processor..

GoAutoDial runs fine on 64bit processors (Xeons, Core 2 Duos/Quads, AMD Phenoms and etc). You need to find out if your hardware is supported under Linux to run GoAutDial.
