For the last day or so I have been racking my brain on the best structure and use of campaings, lists and filter. It appears to me that the beauty and complexity of Vicidial is the flexibility to track and manage contacts in a multitude of ways which brings up some really good questions.
What is the Vicidial actual definition of a campaign, list and filter and what are their best uses? What is the common use or definition of vendor code?
Example:
Quick overview of operations:
Company is doing State based B2B marketing for about 8 different companies. Each company has multiple different products and structures for instance 1 lead could use 1, 3, or 8 companies/products or any combination (hope that makes sense).
What would best practice be? Is there a way to have one main list and have multiple campaigns working off that list or would it be best to duplicate that list? Can a lead have multiple dispositions for different campaigns? For instance could lead ID 33443 be dispo'd as SALE in one campaign1 and Not Interested in campaign2?
anyone else willing to share some hierarchy examples and suggestions of their use is appreciated?
anyway thanks in advance.

It really depends on the company and how they want to handle their leads. Usually how a company sets up ViciDial is determined by how their internal database is already set up.
In your example you could set up different grouping of lists(even with duplicates in different lists) and then set the lists to active at different times and even for different campaigns depending on how you wanted to call for the day. You can even change the same list to a different campaign if you want and the logs will store the status of every call (even if they are placed for different campaigns), but most companies choose to keep lists set on a single campaign.
You are correct, there are many different ways to set things up in ViciDial, and the way you do it should be related to how you deal with data outside of ViciDial.

Is it possible to import leads in with the disposition already set?

Yes, but only through the CLI lead loader(or if you setup an FTP grabbing lead load setup in the crontab). You cannot import the status using the web-based lead loader.

In fact (in addition to Matt's version), you CAN simply place them directly into the Vicidial List if you like. If you are sure you do not want/need the rest of the functionality of the importer.
We generally use the command line importer (sometimes with minor modifications such as file location), simply because it already has all this stuff in it and can just be "called upon" to do its duty.
Very handy tool.
