XLite and ViciDial work on one laptop, but not the other.

The issue is that I need it to work on both.

I'm a newb to all of this, so please bear with me. I tried searching the forums and wiki, but couldn't find the solution.

A little background:
I helped my wife install Xlite and ViciDial on our newer MacBook. Everything is set up correctly according the the instructions we were given. She logs in to ViciDialNow, fires up the auto dialer, and everything seems to be working. XLite will give us a window saying inbound call, but when it's clicked and we're connected, we can't hear anything (no phone ringing or voice inbound or outboud).

I've doublechecked mute and speaker phone settings, and that all the appropriate speaker and mic devices are selected, so I don't think it's that kind of issue.

So in the name of proper troubleshooting, I fired up our older MacBook and installed Xlite and ViciDialNow on it. Everything works fine. The autodialer starts ringing audibly right away.

I'm not sure why this is, but I have a feeling it has to do with the something related to the fact that the older MacBook is used for Skype, and that maybe Xlite and ViciDialNow are using the same ports for Skype. So when we try to use Xlite and ViciDialNow on the new computer, it's trying to use ports that are already "reserved" for the older computer. Clearly, I'm out of my depth here.

The easy solution, of course, is to just have her work off the older Mac, but that's not ideal since I need it to do my job.

Both computers are using ViciDialNow (VERSION: 2.0.5-206 , BUILD: 90525-1014) and Xlite (v3.0 release 1014k, build 56015).

Newer MacBook:
OSX 10.6
2.13 GHz Core 2
2GB RAM

Older MacBook
OSX 10.4
2 Ghz Core 2
1 GB RAM
Older MacBook:
OSX 10.4

if you made "adjustments" to your router to make skype work (whenever that was) or to make the older machine work ... you may have "pointed" something to your old machine in the router. that would need to be pointed to the newer (or more accurately "the one you want to actually work").

it is also possible that you cannot use your voip provider with two machines at once (or from the same originating IP address).

a relatively simple method to find out would be to SKIP vicidial completely and just use X-Lite with your VOIP provider. If this works on one, but not the other ... the problem is not vicidial, but your SIP connection.

working that out is the same on vicidial as it is with vonage and any other SIP phone service.

but you have VICIDIAL workin on a MacBook? That's way cool. LOL

Shoot, I knew I forgot to mention something.

So, my network is simple, just an airport wireless router connected to a cable modem. Pretty straightforward, and I've never had any problems setting up Skype. No port addressing or anything. Basically, everything is plug and play. Like I said, pretty new to this kind of stuff.

I've also contacted my IP and asked about port blocking, specifically regarding SIP, and they said that they don't block anything. So there's that.

Well, I have ViciDialNOW working on the MacBooks, but I have a feeling that's not as impressive.

so what was your solution? did you open a second account at your voip provider?

do you have these running inside virtual machines on the macbooks?

As far as running Xlite, I just downloaded the version for OSX. I would give you the link, but I haven't posted the required amount of posts to unlock that power.

As for ViciDialNow, everything we use is browser based, so there was no installation required for that stuff.

I'm thinking it has more to do with Xlite and ports than it does with ViciDial/ViciDialNow.

ok, so you're not "running" vicidialnow on a macbook, you are logging in to vicidialnow (which is running on another computer, which you have not given specs for) with a web browser on your macbooks.

and your problem is that your x-lite on one macbook will dial out, but the x-lite on the other macbook will NOT dial out?

Sorry for the wrong terminology.

Yes, I am logging in at Vicidialnow with a web browser, and using Xlite as the softphone software.
I have done this on BOTH of the MacBooks; there is no third, spec-less computer.

I can get Xlite and ViciDialNow to work correctly (dial out; full voice capability) on the older Macbook. On the newer MacBook, everything seems to be working correctly except for the fact that there is no audio incoming or outgoing; no one can hear us and we can't hear them.

Since I use the older MacBook for my work, my wife can't make calls while I'm working.

Hopefully that clears things up.

What computer is running the installed vicidialnow with the CentOS operating system?

Sounds like the newer Macbook has very restrictive firewall settings (blocking RTP ports). Try switching off the firewall and test if you still encounter no audio or one-way audio issues. If successful you need to adjust your firewall settings.
