Ordinarily it isn't the processor that poses any issues. Rather the motherboard (chipset!) and NIC. Those are the items for which special drivers must be written.

Processors are pretty much universally handled, but every motherboard manufacturer tries to cut corners on the rest of the stuff and they switch to new chipsets (sometimes with new toys, sometimes just with a lower price) quite regularly. Then someone has to write a new driver to work with the new chipset (and until they do, CentOS, OpenSuSE, Gentoo, Ubuntu, Debian, etc. wait for those drivers to be readily available and ported to THEIR platform ... which can be a while).

Lets say if I use Original Intel Motherboard with above Config , Would I be able to go ahead with around 40 seats as I have Tried Core2Quad with 35 seats and works pretty stable and good.

it's not about "i7!!!!", or any other name. it's about speed and number of processors.

how fast is this processor?

Lots of memory and large hard drive are nice, but as Kumba will point out it's not the size of the HD that decides "live or die", but the speed and number of platters. 4 platters 15K rpm. Offload any data onto another server or another drive every night during off time.

that being said: if your speed is close to the Core2Quad and your configuration is otherwise identical, you should easily be able to handle 5 more agents by adding two processors to the system.

BUT: You can only have that advice IF you agree to post your results here as gardo required (never argue with gardo!). And the motherboard model number so we can see if we can get a few other people using the same specs and compare results. :)
(Otherwise you are required to forget the information just given)

The driver availability is dependent upon the lifetime of the motherboard/chipset/nic. If they are old enough for CentOS (or OpenSuSE) to have drivers available ... you're good. If not ... well, it could be a bummer to install.

Luckily, GoAutoDial is a fairly fresh .iso, so it has fairly recent drivers available.

I have sent a few clients back to "the cheap computer store of choice" to get another board because they got the cheapest newest one (or often the expensive "bleeding edge") with the brand new chipset that is only supported by Windows (and that just barely).

The documentation for a multi-server system is already provided in the source code of Vicidial. Check out LOAD_BALANCING.txt. Matt has provided enough documentation to get us going. And if you encounter an issue or two, we're always here in the forum. :)

Vicibox has a special system built into their install package for Multi-Server.

Poundteam has "condensed and simplified" the multi-server for earlier versions, but apparently they work nicely for 2.2 and 2.4 (no complaints yet).

I note that "vicidial multi-server" brings up the Poundteam.com manual in the top three when I google it. :)

Remember that you are not clustering "GoAutoDial", you are clustering VICIdial, for which the directions are not that difficult (as Gardo said, it's in the documentation). But we've found the manual to be helpful. DO read the .txt file as well!

Sorry, We follow Vnow , instead of parent Vicidial , so closely that we try to look out for the Documentation from the same :-)

Cool. Now all you have to do is convince Gardo to write a multi-server manual. Hm. No ... you may distract him from bringing the cool web interface up to 2.4!!
