you should not use asterisk/goautodial/vicidial on a virtual enviroment like wmvare.

It will have trouble with timing

Make sure the file is not corrupted, check the size of the file (should be 6xxmb) and the MD5 hash if possible. Alternatively you can open the iso using winrar and make sure the files are in there.

Next, make sure you choose "Connect at Power On" in your vmachine settings under the CDROM device.

Just wondering if your VMWare installation worked, or if you gave up on the testing environment.

Functionality under VMWare

How extensive did your testing go? Were you able to get both incoming and outgoing calls to work?

we use a vmware instance for testing on a regular basis (excellent for development so we can hit reset and start over)

so far i have not found anything that does not work, but it is only truly stable for ONE CALL AT A TIME. inbound, outbound, transfer, whatever ... one call at a time.

We have a large thread on this topic, not sure where now. You will not be able to use vmware live with vicidial. Well not entirely true, you can get 1 or 2 machines working but not sure of the max capacity. I have spent many hours and days over the last 6 months working on a solution and all I can come up with is PCI pass through with a USB timer.
ESX or ESXi, passing through the PCI card of an FXO or the USB PCI card will give the guest direct access but at the cost of the entire card (if theres multi usb ports they will all be passed), all card dependencies, and of course there are only so many PCI slots. USB passthrough will NOT work either. Drivers will load and the timer will be recognized but there is a communication error between the guest and USB device that renders it useless.

Basically, if you need one machine on the entire vnetwork , do the above, don't resell it lol. A solution that costs a few dollars is better than a free solution that doesn't work at all.

We have had success with OpenVZ, but it wasn't really a viable option for us as we scaled it.

That would be the nature of this beast. There's one guy who says he's got 15+ agents on a system but is having stability issues trying to scale up.

He's on a VMware instance inside an 8 Core Xeon system.

15+ agents max on an 8 Core Xeon is a heck of a waste, but that's the highest production use I've heard inside a virtual machine to date. He never answered whether there were other things going on with that box, so I have to assume at this point that Vicidial was IT, and that box that could ordinarily handle close to 50 agents was being used at less than one third capacity due to "virtualness".

the only thing I can say for that is that IF he were capable of holding three Vicidial systems with 5 users each, that could be viewed as moderately useful.

I had Virtualbox for a while, but changed to VMWare for an old freebie i found a VM server for ... but didn't notice much of a difference, really.

You wouldn't notice much difference in performance if you're using a powerful or modern PC. However, when you're using something a little bit older or Intel Atoms you can feel the difference. :)
