Vicibox 3.1.8 64 Bit install failed / 3.1.9 also

Postby shijujoe » Thu Feb 24, 2011 1:31 am

I tried installing vicibox 3.1.8 64 bit but unfortunately couldnt complete the installation.

Installation is progressing till the reboot step of 'os-install' Phase 1 , after the reboot ,server is getting freezed on authentication method selection screen , I am not sure whether its a USB keyboard issue as specified in http://www.vicidial.org/VICIDIALforum/v ... hp?t=16473 , my keyboard also not working in this screen.

I tried installing in Dell optiplex 755 and Dell optiplex 620 , tried many times , but both machines freezed on the same screen after the first reboot.

Thanks in advance
Shiju

try 3.1.9 (latest) or go back to an old one like 3.0.6 :) 25 cents per CD, right?

older version v3.0.6 seems to have an asterisk redirect issue.

I shall give a try with v3.1.9

------------------------------------

EDIT:

I tried v3.1.9 , this also freezed on "Authentication Method" screen after the first reboot on a Dell optiplex 755 , am not sure whether its a USB keyboard related issue as some other user has pointed out , unfortunately Dell optiplex does not have any PS/2 ports.

Asterisk 1.4.37 through 39 has an issue where Redirect actions drop the call. We fixed this in the 1.4.39.1-vici release that we put out, and a zypper update from the newest vicibox will grab this.

Seems to be a lot of people with Dell's having issues installing. Since we don't have any dell's here we can't duplicate the issue. If you want to send us a server we can try installing it and seeing what happens.

I just installed 3.1.9 64-bit on a Linux RAID Intel G41 chipset, an LSI MegaRAID on Intel 5000/V chipset, and an Adaptec HostRAID on an Intel 3000 chipset. None of these were Dell however. They were MSI, SuperMicro, and Asus respectively.

Seems like a hardware related issue , unfortunately I dont have any other desktops to try out, other than DELL ones.

@williamconley , could you please share the version of 64 bit ISO installed in 1950 or 2950

I was able to install the 32 bit iso in DELL machines with out any issues.

Can I setup a multiserver vicibox redux cluster by only using 32 bit ISOs , since I am able to install the 32 bit ISOs with out any issues

is there any dependency on 64 bit ISO to make a vicibox cluster?

Thanks to the team.

Dell R710 3.1.8 install failure

Postby jaugenstine » Sat Feb 26, 2011 1:37 am

I also encountered a problem with the 3.1.8 install failure on Dell. My experience was that when the reboot stage was encountered the install was unable to mount the drives and the install froze. I had to reboot the server to free it up. I reproduced this problem on two separate Dell servers. My solution was to drop back to 3.1.5.

I was having problems with some of the Vicibox releases with my Dell servers but 3.1.9 defaults to 2.6.34.7-0.7 which works fine for me.

However, 3.1.8 defaults to kernel 2.6.34-12 which did not like my Dells.

shijujoe,

I also gone through the same scenario before installing vicibox 3.1.8 64bit on HP DL380 G5, but already resolved on vicibox 3.1.9 64bit.

Try this fix, hope this helps ...

@randy_delgado_03 , thanks for your help i was able to install 64 bit redux following your help.

Now another problem arise , I want to use the 64 bit only for the DB and web , but regardless of what ever options I select it installs asterisk also.

(I selected no for SVN checkout , no for Telephony , no for manual installation, no for vtiger , yes for DB , yes for Web)

is it normal? am confused ,

should I use 64 bit ISO for multiserver for setting up DB alone?

Thanks

use yast to disable asterisk and you'll be fine.

type: yast
go to 'system' and then to 'system services'
find asterisk and disable it.

All base packages for ViciBox Redux are installed, such as MySQL, Apache, Asterisk, PHP, etc etc. Only the appropriate services are set to start depending upon the server roles you select for them. So even though Asterisk is installed, unless you say 'Y' to the telephony server, it will not start. The majority of what the vicibox-install does is turn things on and off, and configure them. The only actuall software install it does is ViciDial (for the most part).
