Voice Breaking on E1-PRI's

Postby gurugee1 » Fri Mar 25, 2011 6:38 am

Hi,

I have installed GoAutoDial with 2 Digium TE220 E1 Cards, I have 3 E1 PRI's.

Agents are able to take calls, vicidial and asterisk is working fine. but I have some voice issues. Agents and customers sometimes unable to hear to each other.
I'm calling on cellphones of my customers, but most of them are ON net calls.
I have 35 agents login on 2 Campaigns, and all the time for 9 hrs shift, all 35 agents are login.

The server specification is this:
[root@go ~]# cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 6
model : 26
model name : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5506 @ 2.13GHz
stepping : 5
cpu MHz : 2133.504
cache size : 4096 KB

and the output of top - c is this:

top - 16:37:30 up 4 days, 18:27, 3 users, load average: 26.65, 27.52, 20.97
Tasks: 185 total, 3 running, 181 sleeping, 0 stopped, 1 zombie
Cpu(s): 27.7%us, 6.7%sy, 0.0%ni, 55.5%id, 8.3%wa, 0.0%hi, 1.7%si, 0.0%st
Mem: 2065536k total, 2013884k used, 51652k free, 16320k buffers
Swap: 1044216k total, 15228k used, 1028988k free, 1657336k cached

and further detail is given below:

VERSION: 2.2.1-237
BUILD: 100510-2015

please advise.

thank you

overload

Postby striker » Fri Mar 25, 2011 8:57 am

your load average is too high
load average: 26.65, 27.52, 20.97

it should not reach 1 but yours is above 20. try to reduce the load or go with multiserver setup

CPU E5506 is a quad core system. vicidial should never run (average) above 50%. Which means it should never go above 2.0.

If you are running above 10, you likely have an issue with the software installation or you are just plain overloading your system.

You have 35 agents ... but how many simultaneous phone calls? (both ringing and active?)

Do you have any software other than Vicidial installed on your system?

You could also consider Vicibox Redux if your installation is "stock", however: you may just be overloaded.

If you cannot reduce the load, it is time to CLUSTER. Add another server to your installation.

CPU load is not all the time on 20, it comes on 2 and 4 also.
approx 40 calls ringing and 30 agents on active calls.
No other software is installed on it, only GoAutoDial is installed. but I'm recording all calls, may be its an issue, can I add external call recording system with it, like NICE or anything else you suggest me pls.

Do you want me to install another server and put database on it, I have read Vicidiadial Clustering document. Just I follow the manual.?

My CPU is Quad core with 4GM RAM.

You would do well to install another server. possibly for database and web, but definitely at least for database.

the fact that it sometimes drops down to 2 is good ... but going over 2 indicates overload and going over 4 (even for an instant) means ADD SERVER. Especially when it goes over 10 from time to time.

Easier to cluster with Vicibox Redux.

We have systems (dual, quad, eight core and etc) running on average at 100% X number of cores (and sometimes higher) without any voice quality issues. Just needs proper optimizations.

What codec are you using? Do you have RAM drive enabled or tmpfs? A properly optimized quad core server can handle 30 agents doing 2:1 to 3:1 dial ratio smoothly.

load average: 26.65, 27.52, 20.97
a bit more than 100%. We've found that reaching 50% means that you are about to hit the roof. Since "Peaks" generally go far above the "1,5,10 minute average", the client is often peaking at 80-90% when the system is cruising at 50% (every minute on the minute). As soon as it hit's or exceeds 100%, bad things that are unpredictable happen. Generally the first complaint is "two clients in one room", but it could be just about anything "odd" at that point.

And
Agents and customers sometimes unable to hear to each other.
often means (but please correct me if i'm wrong) that they aren't hearing garbled or roboty voices or bad quality, they just can't hear each other. I'm guess this happens during these seriously high load moments. Which is likely an indicator that during overload, the vicidial system is becoming unreliable (transfers aren't happening properly, in this case, but like I said, it's just a guess from prior experiences). Of course, we don't generally use CentOS. 8)

I'm not sure the load average plays a vital role in voice issues,
sometimes, the all 35 agents on call and system load is not more then 10.
and sometimes only 22-24 agents on call and system load is more then 25-28.

Whats wrong in the configuration, I did, please advise.

but this is true also, when the system load is high, the voice issue comes in. but it varies.

I have seen such problems before, the primary reason being high memory utilization. I think the same applies for you. Read the memory utilization topic in the stickies and apply the required changes, I think you should be fine if you do that.
