Ive been working on interfacing my vtiger to my dialer... but hear that i may be wasting my time... that sugar can handle more records, and that vtiger has limitations and security issues depending on the version im planning to use. Is it true i need to stick with 5.0.4? or can i go to 5.2.1? Any input would be wonderful. I really dont want to waste resources with the wrong solution.

the docs (/usr/share/astguiclient/VERSION/docs) should have a vtiger readme or other document stating the version compatible quite clearly.
i'm a fan of sugar so I can't really help (i'd just push you to Sugar
).
the question is: do you want to share USERS between vicidial and vtiger or other information?

Vicidial provides an excellent vTiger integration feature. It not only allows your agents to view popups but also log calls inside of vTiger. Also, like williamconley said it allows you to share users with vTiger. Goautodial gives all of this out of the box, so a +1 to that.

k... so i understand about the sugar bias... and now the goautodial... i guess what im really asking.. is the documentation reads to use 5.0.4... however... even goautodial is using 5.1. Im assuming this is a safe version... or did you have to manipulate the code to make it work correctly with vici? i have a contact who said he had a modified version allowing him to use 5.1... but im just curious what is keeping a fresh install of vici from using th e5.2.1? and is there any way around it? on top of that... isnt vtiger built off of sugar?

vTiger is 100% original and genuine software. Goautodial does use 5.1 and it works very well. I haven't tried integration Vicidial with vTiger 5.2.1 but I am sure it shouldn't be too hard to do.

prior notes on the topic indicated that the integration has not yet been updated past 5.1
if you want to modify it to work with 5.2 or later ... be sure to create diff files and post it to the issue tracker after so it may be included for the next update. (and you won't have to patch again if you upgrade again
)

My favorite feature with vtiger 5.2.1 is the ease at which you can add a comment or note to a record. With sugar it is a more tedious process.

but sugar can be modified to make it less tedious. in fact, we have scripts that pop comments into "history" for just about everything that happens so the agents don't get to "forget" that certain things happened.
in addition to that, we've managed to create methods outside sugar to ... simplify anything that becomes too cumbersome for specific operational models.
Of course, the same thing can be done in vTiger, I'm sure.

I have a client and we have successfully integrated Vtiger 5.2.1 with their Vicidial application Originally we had Vtiger 5.1 in place and upgraded them to 5.2.1 about a month ago. For Vicidial it was just a matter of updating the Vtiger info in Admin/System Settings and resynching. The client has 20 CC Agents that are constantly adding leads into vtiger from vicidial with no issues. We have also integrated Thunderbird so they have an easy process to add emails and create new contacts /Leads. Current records in the Database is around 7000 and growing.

Cool ... what is integrated? Users? Leads? Both? Other stuff? (ie: what have you checked on that is actively, functionally integrated, as opposed to "it's not tossing an error")
Also: Please let me know when you hit 50k Leads. I'd like to hear what the speed of the system is about then (ie: will 5.2.1 get better reviews than 5.1 did with a decent number of leads)

We integrated both Users (Add a new user to Vicidial, Click Synchronize with Vtiger under Admin/System settings/- Leads (CCAgents click the webform link on the Agent screen and it searches the Vtiger Database and adds Lead if not found. No mods just used the script that Matt put together. Although when I get time I am going to modify to include custom field syncing for Leads and I would also like to set up a second vtiger integration in the same Vicidial Installation so CCAgents can link to more than 1 Vtiger Database based on the campaign.

So you'll move the vTiger integration off of the system settings and into the campaign settings, so each campaign can sync with a different server? (will this include users in some fashion? since different users will then be on different vTiger instances ...?)

Yup based on the required configuration for the client would need to be able to do both. I like the Campaign specific approach for integration that opens up a lot of possibilities.

Would have to find a way for the script to call just the users for the campaign and insert them into VTiger should be doable.
Two goals:
1. The ability to set up multiple small companies on one Vicidial installation say with 150 seats available and give each of them their own VTiger database and campaigns
2. Give one company access to multiple VTiger Databases based on Campaigns. I have a client that requires that now as they have 2 "Divisions" that use 2 separate databases. In this case I could have the users synced to both Databases as that is not a concern, just need the ability to have Vicidial add leads to one database or the other based on campaign.

Not exactly would need Vicidial to sync 2 separate databases or multiple databases depending on scenario 1 or 2 and then there would be a webform link for each database based on the campaign

so perhaps a "sync database" per "list" in vicidial (ie: each list could connect to a different vTiger database, or perhaps each campaign to a database and each list would be a lead status ...?)

Yeah I'm thinking it would be easier to have each campaign sync up to a database that way we could have a basically unlimited amount of Databases attached to each Vicidial install
