It would be great if Gardo would make that Getting Started Guide a link that is listed on the SSH login splash screen and the landing screen after downloading the .iso. And in multiple languages! LOL

It's actually already in the landing page. Don't know why many people missed it. It's a clickable link.

That's not what *I* see when i go to GoAutoDial.com

I see "Go Hosted! * Download! * Need Help?", but nothing about the Getting Started ... (although it's likely under "Wiki" but not a Big Button or eye catching. I can see why people would miss it.)

What do I click on when I am on GoAutoDial.com to get it? Cuz I don't see those links on the landing page ... they must be somewhere else.

Err... that's our website not the landing page of the newly installed GoAutoDial system (http://192.168.1.2 default IP address).

Perhaps that's where the falling down point is. These people JUST installed their server and got the .iso from your site ... they are likely not thinking that the screen on their new servers is a resource, they go back to your site and don't see a getting started guide link.

Most of them probably spend all their time in the main interface and bypass that splash page completely.

Just a guess.

There is a Getting Started Guide link on our website (aside from the wiki link). Anyway, I don't think that's what's happening. Some people might not just be searching or reading the Getting Started Guide and plunges head-on to navigating the system. Probably excited to get going? Hehehe!

That's my guess, these are people who have never done anything like this before, they do not see a getting started guide on the landing page and have no idea they should be looking for one.

If you made a "what's next" page for when people download the .iso, containing obvious links to getting started and another reminder about the 50 cents free calls and your support numbers ... perhaps they'd listen.

but i think having it IN the download paragraph would be best. The guide has been proven to be quite useful, and i'm sure a lot of people give up without it. loss of clientele ... 8)

The only clickable link in the download paragraph is the "more" button that you use to get your form filled out (unless you count the Grab It link that goes to the same place). Neither of which has a link to the "Getting Started" wiki. the only way to get to that seems to be the Wiki link at the top. I think they are not used to the concept of a Wiki being a useful thing.

If you have to fill out the form to get the "Getting Started" (even though you've ALREADY filled out the form prior to that, which is WHY you need the Getting Started you failed to grab before ...), I can understand the client frustration. Nobody likes filling those things out. Twice is worse. LOL

I meant the download page of GoAutoDial (http://goautodial.com/download/). Where you get to download the ISO.

but to get to that, one must fill out the form "again" ... and if one has already done so ... well, that's why they never find it. These are not patient people.

is there a problem with making it EASY to find? i mean ... it is useful ... they want it ... ?

Nope. The link is available in the download page whether they fill-up the form or not.

um ... but they can't get to the download page without the form? (and if you refer to that tiny little note underneath the form, beneath the google terms of service and report abuse ... no wonder they never find it!)

and the point here is that they aren't finding it. my guess is that would be because it's not on the main page, no link. and on the form page it's tiny and hidden. and if it's on the download page ... well, who wants to fill out the form again?

but they are your customers.

To everyone who always having a trouble with changing IP address of GoAutodial installer. Here is my solution:

First thing first you need a basic linux skill to this.

GoAutodial was configured in 192.168.1.2 by default. However your network setup is not in that range or that Ip address is already someone's Ip address.

For example your router configuration is in 192.168.204.1 to 192.168.204.254 ip range. You want to make your server ip to 192.168.204.200.

Here is the procedure:

Login to your server directly then type "setup" this will bring a graphical interface look for the "network configuration". Change all the necessary configuration ei. your server ip, subnet, default gateway and dns.

then save quit.

next is

type this in your CLI "service network restart" to refresh your NIC ip address or you can also reboot your system, which ever your prefer.

after that

type this in your CLI "update_server_ip" to update your vicidial ip address.

You can now access your server with its new ip address.

It's also on the main page. Sorry if we don't spoon feed users. That's not how we do things. The system is already free and open source. Geesh! A little reading wouldn't hurt would it?

I beg to differ. You have made your installation just plain simple. So the users who download it ... expect everything to be That Simple.

And when we release our Ubuntu version (and any others) we actually will follow your lead. It appears that there is a huge following for "plug and play" don't ask questions, just install.

Not a bad thing, really. A little spoon feeding allows the Vicidial incubator to allow those clients to make money ... and ultimately ask for a more integrated solution (after they are making $$!). Then they call us.

I'm good with that. Easy is good. 8)

And what's not so simple with doing some little reading? Specially with getting yourself familiar with the system with the Getting Started Guide.

The reading isn't the difficult part Navigating to a "Getting Started Guide" by clicking on a wiki link is ... too new school? I guess.

When you're too lazy to navigate the page then you definitely don't deserve to get to use open source software.

My background is in Graphic Design. We spent a great deal of time making sure the design causes the desired result ... ie: if the users are having trouble finding something on the page ... change the page to make it easier.

Strange as it may sound, this seemed to make people happy. 8)
