that was a good troubleshooting tool. it says the chan oss and MGCP is what is failing. modify your modules configuration in asterisk and tell it noload for chan_oss and MGCP (you could try one, the other, and both)

although if you have not modified this system since installation, i'd reinstall it just to avoid any OTHER problems that may be lurking.

if you HAVE modified this system since installation, your last modification may have been a bad idea, tell us what it was.

Code: Select all
nano /etc/asterisk/modules.conf

look for

Code: Select all
;
; Load either OSS or ALSA, not both
; By default, load OSS only (automatically) and do not load ALSA
;
noload => chan_alsa.so
;noload => chan_oss.so

NEITHER is necessary for operation, so you can actually ; both of them to be safe.

Reinstall!

if it fails again, try vicibox.com to see if that one has better luck.

watch for errors during your installation.

Which is why i'd look at a reinstall, myself. If only just to retrace your steps and see if YOU did something that caused it to go *poof* at some point. This time you could watch for it (knowing the importance of that folder, keep an eye on it and see if/when it disappears).

Never fear the reinstall.

(Especially if you have an Android phone and get "download happy" LOL) 8)

I installed asterisk and vicidial and when I tried to run asterisk I got the following:

asterisk -rvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv

when you post, please post your entire configuration including (but not limited to) your installation method and vicidial version with build.

this IS a requirement for posting along with reading the stickies (at the top of each forum) and the manager's manual (available on EFLO.net, both free and paid versions)

You should also post: Asterisk version, telephony hardware (model number is helpful here), cluster information if you have one, and whether any other software is installed in the box. If your installation method is "from scratch" you must post your operating system and should also post the .iso version from which you installed your original operating system.

Similar to This:

Vicibox X.X from .iso | Vicidial X.X.X-XXX Build XXXXXX-XXXX | Asterisk X.X.X | Single Server | No Digium/Sangoma Hardware | No Extra Software After Installation

Sorry, but so far i have this: you installed asterisk and it isn't running. but since I have no idea about your system at all ... I can't offer any help.

asterisk and vicidial startup error

Postby stevep38now » Tue Aug 30, 2011 10:39 am

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I apologize for not providing for enough information I have installed asterisk and vicibox using the following guide:

http://wiki.vicidial.org/index.php/VICI:UbuntuInstall

The asterisk version is:

Asterisk 1.4.27.1-vici

on ubuntu 8.04 kernel 2.6.24-29-server

I had trouble with with the zaptel install, but was able to get around it. At the end of the install instructions it had me run screen -ls and said that it should show at least six sessions I how ever got the following message:

No Sockets found in /var/run/screen/S-root.

It then said to start asterisk with the following command:

asterisk -rvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv

That is were I get the :

== Parsing '/etc/asterisk/asterisk.conf': Found
== Parsing '/etc/asterisk/extconfig.conf': Found
Unable to connect to remote asterisk (does /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.ctl exist?)

I checked the /var/run/ directory and noticed that there was no asterisk directory being created.

I can get to the asterisk ready cli though if I type asterisk -vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvgc

Thanks again for your help
