System load average ( Distortion )

Hi to all,

Well i want to know what should be the system load average for smooth dialing. Bcz i have intel xeon 3.00ghz with 1gb and when my 12 agents are login my system load averege is 9.00 and giving problem. Plz tell me the solution what should be the normal system load average for smooth dialing of 15 agents and what should be the specification of server. Wating of your prompt reply.

load average using top, htop, or uptime should never go above half of your number of processors.

ie: Core2Quad (4 processors): 2.0

another thing to look for is "peak": htop has a nice graphical "real time" showing present usage. that real time should never hit 100% on any processor, and certainly should not hit it on more than one or stay at 100% for more than one second.
