Switching to Seoerate Database/Web and Asterisk Servers

Postby fibres » Mon Jan 30, 2012 5:42 pm

Hi guys

I have an existing running vivibox setup. I have everything on one machine and is working and the config is all setup.

I would now like to get rid of asterisk from the existing server and keep it as just the database and web server and install a new server as the dialer server.

The asterisk will have a new IP address and the web/database will stay on current IP. This is to minimise config changes to the agents machines.

Anyone give me any ideas how I achieve this?

Firstly what do I have to change on existing server to remove the asterisk and other stuff?

Secondly if I do an ip address change using the server ip change script to the ip of the new asterisk and install from the vicibox and tell it is only a telco server will it pick up that the server is already configured and set it up using the existing configs?

Any help or howtos on this would be great.

Regards

Don't make changes on the machine you are "removing asterisk from". Leave it alone. If you are not using asterisk on it, it won't hurt anything to have asterisk running.

AFTER you have added a new dialer or dialer/web server to the cluster, using instructions from Vicibox.com on adding a new server to your cluster ... and it's been running for a while ... and you are NOT using asterisk on that db server ... then you may consider shutting down asterisk when it becomes overloaded (gonna be a while, by the way, because before you do that you should move WEB off of the DB server as well).

But do not "go looking for trouble". Unnecessary "fixing" will get you every time with a Vicidial cluster. Seriously 8-)

Rememer: If (during this process) you have a sudden need to have a single agent "Test" campaign set up, having that run on the DB with NO other agents will make troubleshooting much simpler (no other traffic on the box!)

Hi William.

Thanks for your response and suggestion.

What is the easiest way to move all the entries like phones and carriers to reflect the new setup?

Two possibilities: Don't "move them", make new ones.

OR go to the appropriate entries under admin->phones and admin->carriers and change the server ip to the new one. In case of failure, change them back.

Best bet: create new "Carriers" and modify the phones to move them to the new server. But: ONE phone at a time

Don't try to move your whole crew and disrupt the operation of the entire room ... test it with a single agent first, then add a couple more at a time during breaks and lunches ... and watch your server load while you are doing it. As long as you never overload either server and you don't "shut down the room" to move an agent or two, you have a "Live" fully functional test system that can adapt slowly to the new situation.

Hi william

I was thinking of something that didnt involve me moving all the phones one at a time.

I am planning to do the move over this weekend when we are closed to avoid issues of room being down.

I have a load of server move arounds and want to get it all done this weekend.
