You can try modifying the GRUB boot record and removing the vga=BLAH (where BLAH will be something like 0x314) and adding the nomodset command to the kernel options. I think you can do this by hitting the 'e' key in the grub menu. If you do get it to come up, once you are able to log in you will want to edit the /boot/grub/menu.lst file to make the change permanent.
