partitioning two hard drives

hi,

im creating a new server with 2 hardrives, i want to separate the recordings w/c is(/var/spool/asterisk/monitorDONE) and place it on the second hardrive.

can some one please help??

1) Welcome to the Party!

2) when you post, please post your entire configuration including (but not limited to) your installation method and vicidial version with build.

this IS a requirement for posting along with reading the stickies (at the top of each forum) and the manager's manual (available on EFLO.net, both free and paid versions)

You should also post: Asterisk version, telephony hardware (model number is helpful here), cluster information if you have one, and whether any other software is installed in the box. If your installation method is "from scratch" you must post your operating system and should also post the .iso version from which you installed your original operating system.

If this is a "Cloud" or "Virtual" server, please note the technology involved along with the version of that techology (ie: VMware Server Version 2.0.2). If it is not, merely stating the Motherboard model # and CPU would be helpful.

3) Build the system and get it running and tested with the main hard drive. When that is tested, "mount" the 2nd drive in your recordings folder and you're "done". If you are feeling froggy, you could try to mount it to the /var/spool/asterisk/monitorDONE folder during your buildout, of course.

4) A better method would be to use a 2nd machine with FTP and Apache to which this machine would push the recordings upon completion. This would also be usable then as a "backup" location for your MySQL data. If your Vicidial server ever dies (happens!) you'd have a complete spare copy of the backup in addition to keeping your recordings on a different system. This way you can completely wipe/rebuild your Vicidial server without affecting your prior recordings. You can even push recordings from more than one Vicidial server to a single archiving server.

thanks for you reply.. but im very new in vicibox, can you please give some guide on how to mount the 2nd hard drive. the server is already running and tested. i just dont know how to mount the 2nd hard drive.

Here's a link that you can follow. Although pointed for Ubuntu, the process is actually Linux generic, meaning that any Linux will behave pretty much the same way.

Personally, I would not recommend you to perform this task yourself if you are not knowledgeable enough. Things can go very wrong when mounting other harddrives to your installation and keep them available upon boot-up for example. Try practicing first on a virtual machine before you commit with the live server.
