please explain local channels and what they are for

Postby marmu » Fri May 11, 2012 9:55 am

Hello dear fellow vicidial users!

Is someone able to explain "local channels"? What are they for? When are they created and deleted? It seems like they are used as an "intermediate station" before dialing out and getting a specific call-ID from the carrier. Any hints are highly appreciated, as always ;)

Have a nice weekend! All the best,
Marcus

they aren't used for anything from the standpoint of the user.

but they are used for placing calls in the system (internal routes that lead to "other" places upon calls connecting) by the internal workings of vicidial.

if you were to state why you are interested in them, it would be more likely you'd get an answer less vague.

We'd like to expand our knowledge about the inner workings of vicidial and get to the root of some problems we got. For example during a 5 hour shift we have about 100 agents working and around 10 of them get multiple calls into their conference rooms and we would like to figure out why. We came across local channels and were not able to explain to ourselves how they are used.

The problem of multiple calls connecting to one agent is discussed here:
http://vicidial.org/VICIDIALforum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=25070&p=86908#p86908

I created a new topic since I thought some others would be interested in the inner workings of vicidial and the use of local channels.

So for what calls are local channels created? Are they always used to connect an outbound call to an agent? What if we comment out some code which uses local channels? We thought they could be responsible for causing us trouble and ignored calls with Channel=Local/8600072@default in /usr/share/astguiclient/AST_manager_send.pl . But we didn't see any change.

Thanks for your time! Cheers, Marcus
