Hi All,

I have a goautodial server working for several month. Only about five days ago, it stopped working with the following errors:

switchroot: mount failed: No such file or directory kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

I have tried to do everthing possible to revive the system without any success, I will appreciate your response.

Did you do anything with the system before this happen?
do you see any errors before that line?
can you boot a live-cd and mount the drive?

Hi,

Thanks for the response.Please point me to how to get a live-cd. I have tried getting one from Centos without an success. Would redhat live CD do?

I would recommend using grml http://grml.org/
or SystemRescueCd http://www.sysresccd.org/Download

Hi,

Thanks for the response. Really, the kernel error came after a development activity from my colleages. I did not know what really went wrong. Being a development server, my colleague worked on it I only discovered the error later.

Please let me know if there are other question that my help in resolving this issue.

You should ask your colleague what he did,
maybe he tried to install a new kernel and didn't "enable deprecated sysfs features to support old userspace tools" http://mattiasgeniar.be/2011/02/19/buil ... nel-panic/ found that on a search-engine.

If you have an other kernel in grub to choose then try that one to see if that one boots.

hi! have you been playing around with the filesystems or what did you do before this happen?
write down everything you can see on the screen when you get the kernel panic.
