USB Voice Timer

Postby JCSANHUEZA » Thu Jan 03, 2013 10:44 am

One of the requirements is to install vicidial sangoma hardware.

What happens if a server have installed vicidial NO USB voice timer or other device sangoma?

What are the problems that can occur?

Asterisk should use the dahdi_dummy timer. You can expect problems with voice quality especially at high server load.

We have installed a great number of Vicidial servers (and FreePBX, PBX-In-A-Flash, TrixBox ... etc) servers and have NEVER used a USB card. We have used Digium/Sangoma hardware (E1/T1 cards and PSTN cards) in less than 2% of our installations.

And we have NO issues with sound (except occasional issues tracked down to temporary networking issues). There were issues in this area ... about four years ago, but those are distant memories.

So I'm not sure it's safe to tell anyone that they "Will" experience sound issues connected to not installing a USB card. But then, I've only been doing this for a few years (like ... six).

Standard Vicibox and GoAutoDial installations will install the dummy timer by default. And it will "just work" for the average user (ie: those not using Scratch Install Instructions to install manually instead of from one of the two Vicidial .isos mentioned).
