Zaptel/Dahdi/Asterisk/Meetme/Vicidial headaches!

Postby CraigMalton » Wed Jan 09, 2013 6:00 pm

Firstly, hello, I am very new to all this and ask you for your patience.

Secondly, I read the step-by-step article at the ray solomon site called "How To install ViciDial/astGUIclient 2.4 RC 1 With Asterisk 1.4.21.2 On CentOS 6.2". I have Centos 6.2 on a cloud server, so I do not have any kind of physical access to the machine.

After following the installation instructions (twice (because I messed up the first time), and to the letter), I managed to get my vicidial installation online, phones registering, carriers working.....everything (I had prior experience with OSDial, but decided Vicidial was probably a more comprehensive platform).

Everything seems to be working but, when logging in to the agent interface, the softphone (3CXPhone) rings but then immediately hangs up after I answer the call. After looking at the Asterisk console, I notice the following message:

Code: Select all
[Jan  9 16:49:07] WARNING[4218]: pbx.c:1832 pbx_extension_helper: No application 'Meetme' for extension (default, 8600000, 1)

After digging around, apparently Asterisk was not compiled with the meetme application, so after reading many documents online, I go into "make menuselect" in order to recompile Asterisk with the meetme app but I was unable to select the meetme app at all because it requires Zaptel. I do, however, have Dahdi (which is loaded and responding).

My question is this: Since Vicidial requires meetme, Asterisk doesn't have it, and I can't install it because I do not have Zaptel, how can I get it to work with Dahdi?

I would appreciate any help you can give on this matter because I am pulling my hair out.

Started looking into this and found this:

http://wiki.openvz.org/Asterisk_from_so ... Me_problem
MeetMe problem
Unfortunately, one particular module called MeetMe (conferencing tool) will be switched off from compilation. This happens due to external dependency on 'zaptel' package. Zaptel provides support for some hardware cards for FXO/FXS analog telephony marketed by Digium (the company behind Asterisk), and on top of that supplies so called ztdummy kernel module. Ztdummy works like a simple metronome which is required to synchronize multiple sound streams in case of conference call.
If you do not plan to use analog telephone lines, hence don't like in install the hardware, nothing is lost provided you run your HN with 2.6.XX kernel. You just need to play a little trick with Asterisk make system: download zaptel tarball from the same location as Asterisk itself, and copy it's header zaptel.h to location /usr/include/zaptel/zaptel.h in CT where you plan to build Asterisk. This tweaks MeetMe for installation.
Since Digium is retiring Zaptel with the use of Dahdi, the header you will use to build meetme module to work with Dahdi is called user.h. Just copy this file to /usr/include/dahdi/user.h in CT then build your Asterisk , you should get the MeetMe working.

tried this out on debian,
there's even a deb package called "dahdi-source" after I installed that the file /usr/include/dahdi/user.h existed,
and after a ./configure I could select app_meetme with "make menuconfig"

I used:
asterisk-1.4.39.2 source-code
dahdi-source_2.3.0.1+dfsg-2_all.deb
linux 2.6.36-2

but you wrote that this machine is in the cloud, theres many posts on this forum suggesting to keep away from the cloud when using vicidial

Is your server a physical server or a virtual machine?

Secondly, I read the step-by-step article at the ray solomon site called "How To install ViciDial/astGUIclient 2.4 RC 1 With Asterisk 1.4.21.2 On CentOS 6.2". I have Centos 6.2 on a cloud server, so I do not have any kind of physical access to the machine.

Here's an easier HOWTO install Vicidial on a remote server: http://goautodial.org/projects/goautodialce/wiki/64bit. It's not Vicidial 2.4 RC1 but you can just update it via SVN.
