POTS Lines

Postby t3direct » Mon Mar 11, 2013 6:02 pm

We are currently running VERSION: 2.4-317a, BUILD: 110602-0941 and are trying to figure out how to setup outbound dialing over POTS lines. We have everything setup on the hardware side of things, just lost on how to tell ViciDial to dial out over the analog lines instead of the SIP carriers we are currently using.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Guys!

"everything set up" is a bit vague.

if you are saying that you have a digium (or sangoma ...) card installed and have demonstrated that it is properly configured by dialing out through asterisk and achieved "sound in both directions" ... but now you need to convince Vicidial to dial through this card instead of your sip carrier ... then you have a diaplan alteration to make. If you look in extensions.conf, you will find samples of the necessary dialplans. I advise that you copy them from there and place them in a "Carrier" in Admin->Carriers instead of hard-coding them into the extensions.conf file, though. Makes life simpler in the future for making changes. It is not necessary to put anything in the "account entry" or "registration string" fields and as a result it makes no difference whether you choose SIP or IAX for the carrier type (since there will be nothing placed in sip.conf or iax2.conf because there is nothing in account entry or registration string).

If I have guessed wrong ... then perhaps the Newbie suggestions will help:

when you post, please post your entire configuration including (but not limited to) your installation method and vicidial version with build.

this IS a requirement for posting along with reading the stickies (at the top of each forum) and the manager's manual (available on EFLO.net, both free and paid versions)

You should also post: Asterisk version, telephony hardware (model number is helpful here), cluster information if you have one, and whether any other software is installed in the box. If your installation method is "from scratch" you must post your operating system and should also post the .iso version from which you installed your original operating system. If your installation is "Hosted" list the site name of the host.

If this is a "Cloud" or "Virtual" server, please note the technology involved along with the version of that techology (ie: VMware Server Version 2.0.2). If it is not, merely stating the Motherboard model # and CPU would be helpful.

Similar to This:

Vicibox X.X from .iso | Vicidial X.X.X-XXX Build XXXXXX-XXXX | Asterisk X.X.X | Single Server | No Digium/Sangoma Hardware | No Extra Software After Installation | Intel DG35EC | Core2Quad Q6600

Oh: And Welcome to the Party! 8-)

We have not yet demonstrated that it is properly configured by dialing out through asterisk. Is there a website with the steps on how to do that?

Thank you so much!

Once that's done, you say copying the appropriate dial plan into a new "carrier" entry in the vici admin panel will do the trick?

Whoever sold you the hardware (or the manufacturer if you purchased it new ...) will have installation instructions/manuals/help desk to get it working in Asterisk.

Also: If the hardware is installed in the server (physically in the box) during installation of Vicibox or GoAutoDial from .iso, it quite often will be detected and configured. Saving a lot of headache (but you'll learn less). It's not particularly difficult for someone who has done it a few times and there are many posts on many websites in the LARGER asterisk community. Don't get me wrong, Vicidial is big ... but Asterisk is Freakin' Huge. LOL

Remember that Digium created Asterisk for the purpose of selling this hardware. Sangoma then piggybacked along for the ride, but in both cases their goal is to make it stupid simple to use their hardware so (a) you won't return it for a refund and (b) you'll buy another when you expand your business. So: If you are willing to Try, it will get installed.

Kumba (or anyone at The Vicidial Group, really!), Gardo, anyone at PoundTeam ... or you can do it yourself. Just do a little research and take a few shots at it. You can even put it in a generic workstation and install Vicibox 4.0 on it a few times to "see how it works" and then put it in your real server for the final install. :)
