Hello all!
We need help explaining the differance, advantages and disadvantages between adaptive dialing and ration dialing.
any help?

The background to the question is that we are having troubles usig adapt_hard_limit when 3 agents are connected to the system. calls are dropped, hung up and delayed. some persons recommend using ratio dailing instead and hence the above questions.
we are planing to use this server for max 15 agents and ften 7.

do not use adapt with less than 30 agents.

adapt is used to "auto-set" the dial ratio number to avoid having a manager continually changing the ratio to keep the drop level low and the agents on the phone. however, for this to work there must be lots of data available which does not happen with less than 30 agents. you could "give it a whirl" if you had 20 agents or so to see what it is like, but i don't recommend it under 30.

no problem with using it, as long as you don't go to lunch while it is active of course.

if you do use it: realize that when you drop a call, and you've had less than 30, you have just exceeded 3% drop ratio and the dialer will likely drop to 1:1 ratio dialing until that changes. which means if you have 3 agents available it will only dial 3 calls until such time as the drop ratio decreases. Then it will jump back up until it drops another call, and immediately drop back to 1:1. So your agents will be overloaded or waiting for a few minutes for calls. Probably not the best way to go about it. Of course, you can play with the settings quite a bit (slow down the changes, for instance), but with fewer than 30 agents it is often simpler to just set the ratio to a number near 2.5:1 and manually adjust it to something that "works" most of the day. If you get under 3% drop calls and keep your agent wait time around 30 seconds MAX, you're not doing bad.

Oh! And here are your newbie suggestions! (Welcome to the Party! 8-) )

when you post, please post your entire configuration including (but not limited to) your installation method and vicidial version with build.

this IS a requirement for posting along with reading the stickies (at the top of each forum) and the manager's manual (available on EFLO.net, both free and paid versions)

You should also post: Asterisk version, telephony hardware (model number is helpful here), cluster information if you have one, and whether any other software is installed in the box. If your installation method is "from scratch" you must post your operating system and should also post the .iso version from which you installed your original operating system. If your installation is "Hosted" list the site name of the host.

If this is a "Cloud" or "Virtual" server, please note the technology involved along with the version of that techology (ie: VMware Server Version 2.0.2). If it is not, merely stating the Motherboard model # and CPU would be helpful.

Thanks William!
I have changed the campaign to ration and set the ratio to 2.5 and the system is working much better. I will continue testing and fine tuning.
I will update this post when the system is up and running in production.
