Vicibox Redux 3.1.15 | Vicidial Version 2.4-364a | Build: 120409-1136 | Single Server | X9SCL Micro ATX | Sangoma A102DE
I have a problem that I had not thought of until now and can't find an answer to in the manual or the forum. Our extensions are named after the location of the agent on the call floor. For instance: Ext 2701 is on the second floor seat 701. Since the voicemails are tied to the extension, when we move an agent we must then move the messages as well. Not a huge deal with one-offs but an entire department move could be very daunting. Is there a way around this or is this just a fact of life with Vicidial? If not, we may need to look at changing our naming convention.
Thanks in advance.

that is not much of a problem as I can see. changing phone extension is always easy without changing other fields. that would still work.
lets say ext 2701 can be change to agent701 or employee701 then that agent can still use the dial plan # 701 and vm of 701

Not if someone else moves to that station. That person will then use that ext and dial plan.

normally each employee has a different windows login configured on the windows server. So that agent will not be able to use the extension since that agent login has no extension configured on the softphone. (this is our setup, not really sure whats on yours)

The softphone is configured with the ext, pw, and server. The web interface uses the ext and username for login. Let's say 2701 and 2704 switch places. They can no longer use their existing extensions because they are no longer sitting in 701 and 704 respectively. Therefore they can't really use the same vm as it is tied to the ext which is tied to the seat. I can't have an agent using 704's vm when he is sitting at 701. It becomes worse if that agent moves again. The only way I can see around this is to create a vm box for each agent that is not related to the seat.

This works, btw. Just tested and as long as it is numerical it creates a mailbox in asterisk and drops the message there. I can assign a vm box to each agent that follows them wherever they move. I think this is what you were getting at rrb555. Thanks for your help guys. That's why I come here.

In fact, Vicidial is designed for "Hot Seating" except for this one feature. VM follows the phone. VM emails also follow the phone.
But if you are prepared to use the Agent ID for the VM box in all cases, the VM will follow the user as long as you remember to modify the phones to follow. And since that would then be a sql entry, moving an entire crew could be accomplished with a sql command.
